not so hot, fast to bill, slow to fix

called couple of weeks ago. had appt last week,they called to reschedule, for this week. Came on time, very nice, looked at my generator, said it was a broken "? skip motor ? ". That took 15 minutes. They said they didn't have the part, after time on the phone, then came to collect the bill, for $200. I said "what am I paying for, you have not done anything (in fact, whatever they think is wrong MAY or MAY NOT be right, since they didn't try it out.!) I said I would give them$100 for them coming, but no more until a fix was done. They said no, spent ,more time on the phone, then left without telling me what was next. So I have been calling their office yest. & today, still no answer. Of course I have made tentative appt. with another company (cheaper just by chance, & they have the part), but I will give these guys a few more hours to reply: they said yesterday I would hear by this morning, but that did not happen. So tell me, is the economy tough, or people just unreliable, unresponsive, giving horrible customer service, & then complaining. And not doing as well as they had hoped, & not a clue why? Is this American business, workmanship in action?
