Great work completed
We are very happy with our purchase, gives us a sense of security. The work completed way before promised and great quality work completed. Super guy, who wanted to make sure we were more then happy with his work and the product. Went out of his way to be helpful and goes beyond what he needed to do. Has great people working with him. If you are thinking about a product strongly recommend you getting a hold of Al, you won't be sorry you did.

Works, but Sloppy Install
The generator seems to work okay. Smith really does sloppy work when it comes to cutting the insulation off the wires with his knife. Some of the copper wires have deep cuts in them. Pretty sure my 10-year-old could have done a better job.

Great contractor
We had Al install a system for us last month, he was wonderful to work with. He kept us informed the entire time on what was going to be done and when. We had to have the meter on our house moved and the wire buried by our local power company. Al took care of getting all the permits and lining up the state inspection that was necessary to do the job. During the inspection, an existing problem was found that needed to be fixed, Al offered to repair it for free! He was really a blessing to us and we highly recommend him. We love our new Generac, it is a real peace of mind.

Significant Issues
After a Generac generator was installed by Smith’s Electrical Contracting, I had some significant issues that resulted in an investigation of the installation. Some of the code violations discovered included: 1. NFPA 70-110.22 General, Identification of Disconnecting Means – labelling was not done. 2. NFPA 70-250.32 – Grounding Electrode System is not being done according to code. 3. NFPA 70-300.4 Protection Against Physical Damage – only schedule 40 PVC was used instead of schedule 80 where routinely exposed to damage. 4. NFPA 70-Table 300.5(A) Minimum Cover Requirements– electrical wires were buried 6” deep instead of at least 18” deep. 5. NFPA 70-250.122 cut multiple ground and neutral wire strands instead of fitting them into the connectors. 6. NFPA 70-110.14(B) Splices -included merely wrapped wires together rather than using an approved splicing device. 7. NFPA 70-358.28 Reaming and Threading – cut ends of EMP were not reamed to remove rough edges which resulted in damage to wire insulation. 8. NFPA – 70 312.8(A)(4) Splices Taps and Feed Through Connectors - a warning label was not installed with the location of the closest disconnect. 9. NFPA 70-110.12 Installation shall be in a professional and skillful manner – stripped length of bare conductor shall not be longer than required for the equipment terminal. 10. NEC 406.9(B)(1) – failed to use Weather-Resistant Receptacles (WR) in outdoor (wet) locations. Additionally: 1. Iowa Code 103.10.3.a. class B master electrician license – he is working outside of the political subdivision (Tama County Iowa) limits of licensee. 2. Iowa Code 103.23 Electrical installations — subject to inspection he is not filing for the electrical permits, or having his work inspected. 3. Iowa Code 480.4.e. – Excavator Required Notice – he is not notifying Iowa One Call prior to digging. 4. He has as no workers compensation insurance for his employees – Iowa Code 87.14A. I thought that Generac was a reputable company and screened their dealers, but obviously that is not the case.
