Annual Maintenance Check

I had a 26KW Generac installation on 3/17/2025 by Oregon Generators and I have been very pleased with the unit and with Oregon Generators. I have found Oregon Generators easy to work with and very professional. Plus, as I knew that I would be buying a Generac (whole house generator) wanted a certified installer (and Oregon Generators is) Our annual maintenance check was accomplished by David. He is very professional and thorough. David did a great job and I am highly confident that my Generac will perform as expected when we lose power. Untrustworthy estimates

I reached out to Oregon Generators, received a quote by their estimator John Rouse, and signed the contract. When the installers arrived, they could not install in the location John selected, as it was on a slope and would require leveling and a retaining wall. The newly selected location was much further away and added roughly $2000 to the cost of the job. After installation, I smelled natural gas in the house, and had to call the gas company. They found that natural gas was leaking due to a faulty regulator - the “brand new” regulator installed by this generator company. The gas company’s Notice of Hazardous condition accompanies this review. After installation was complete, I purchased a nearby house for my daughter, and asked the same company for a quote - mainly because I was generally happy with the installation, and preferred to work with the devil I knew, and not start with someone else. I specifically asked for an installer to quote rather than John, and was told the owner would be sent out with John. Rather than the owner, the operations manager accompanied John. This did not stop John from messing up again. His calculations left out several fixed appliances, recommended a 14kW unit, while quoting me an 18kW unit (which I knew to be insufficient for the home). The operations manager confirmed that the house required a 26kW unit I received a new quote, and hesitantly decided to proceed - inquiring about the two financing options listed on the proposal. I was told I would get a call today, but this company continued to drop the ball. Others here report a positive experience with John, but I’ve now had two quotes at two difference houses, with serious mistakes in each. I reached out to the operations manager this evening, and it is clear that he would rather lose a customer than deal with his company’s technical and communications issues. I have scheduled a visit by another company to deal with my daughter’s home.

I live in the Columbia River Gorge where the wind blows & the power goes out.
