Incompetent employees

I did my homework!. Got 5 quotes, contacted previous customers, etc. and chose to go with Gault Electric. Installation seemed to go fine. However, during final buyoff one of the electric leads from the generator to the transfer switch panel had a significant slice in the insulation exposing the wire. Thissituation was not addressed by the Gault Electrical Technician making the installation. This necessitated a subsequent visit by Gault to replace the damaged wire. Furthermore after the generator installation in 2021, we were experiencing frequent random power loss of short duration (less than 5 minutes) and flickering lights, which we attributed to Dominion Energy (the utility). We then began recording the events in order to make a case to take to Dominion Energy. These events occurred on May 9 @ 9:30am, May 14 @ 8:00am, June 10 @ 10pm and June 15 @ 10pm. In August we encountered a situation in which our generator started and ran for 5 hours. Upon investigating, we found that we had not lost power to the house so there was no reason for the generator to be running. With the help of Dominion Energy technicians, we were able to determine that the electrical connections made between the transfer switch panel and the electric meter were not properly installed and secured by the Gault Electrical Technician. Over time, it resulted in sufficient arcing and interrupted connection that the generator detected it, started and ran for 5 hours. In addition, the Dominion technician and the Newport News electrical inspector both detected an "electrical" smell. In a written report Dominion Energy reported, "Then again on 8/18/21 responded to another trouble call for these same issues again. We were also alerted by Newport News city inspector that was onsite, that there was arcing, and a burning smell was coming from the meter base. When we first arrived, we pulled the meter and noted a melting plastic smell inside the meter base, the lower right prong on the meter itself was too hot to touch with a bare hand." Dominion Energy fixed the electrical connections in the meter box and since then we have not had any issues. To add insult to injury, Gault initially stated that we had a bad meter box and wanted us to pay $450 for their technician's time to generate a quote even though the meter box was proven to be fine. Gault never apologized nor tried to make restitution even though we could have had an electric fire starting in the meter box. Since then, Gault has contacted us four separate times to schedule a maintenance visit. When I related our bad experience, they said someone from the office would contact us but never did. One other point, we couldn't get the wifi connection to work. Gault told us our wifi signal was too weak so we got a booster which didn't help. Contacted Generac who walked us through and determined that the wire connection for the wifi in the generator was not plugged in. Gault should have checked that but did not. We plugged in the connector, and it works just fine now.I understand that any company may have incompetent employees but if it were my company I would be bending over backwards to make good in this situation. Gault never tried to and apparently doesn't care.

Sloppy work

I used to like this company very much and I used to recommend them to everyone. The last guy they sent to service my generator, left a huge oil stain when he was finished. I informed them that I'd really appreciate it if you cleaned it before I did. They ignored my request, and I am left to clean up after them.

I have been very happy with there service. Two years ago I had an issue with my home generator. After checking on the internet and with friends I chose Gault. The came out and checked out my generator and advised me of what it needed. They were able to repair it and also checked out and adjusted a few other things. All was done at the same time. They had the tools and parts on the truck to fix it the same day. There price was great for all the work they did.Today they came out to check the gas issue recall. They had to replaced the part that was recalled at no charge for part and labor. While they were here I asked them to check everything out. They were able to make some adjustments that were needed. They do not charge an arm and leg and know what they are doing. I do all my maintenance myself , most of the time. If I have anything I will call them to service my generator or every couple years to check it out. I have talked to several other companies about service over the years and will use GAULT ELECTRIC!

Absolutely the best!

Gault has been stellar to work with, from the initial evaluation to complete installation of our whole-house generator. The entire crew is professional, respectful, and friendly. Their expertise is apparent (installation of these things is complex and ours was unusually so because of location.). Communication and coordination by the office staff was also excellent. We highly recommend Gault !
