Beware of the price!

Beware! My whole house system just turned two, so I wanted to get a tune-up. I found Alternative Power Systems on the Generac website. When I talked to the person on the phone, I was offered two options. The first was a contract for $350 a year. The second was time and materials, and no amount was quoted. Since this was my first generator, I decided to go with the annual plan. The tech came out and did a great job. He was a nice guy. He was in and out in less than an hour and explained everything well. After looking at the invoice and noticing that it was only an oil change, I decided to switch from the annual plan because it seemed expensive at $350 a year, which would end up being about $700 each per oil change because it only happens every other year. I asked them to bill me just for the service call. They sent me a bill for $418.91. That included travel time from Estacada to my house at $120 per hour plus a $1.25 per mile! That made the bill $418.91! Obviously, I opted to pay the $352, but I will never use them again! They are a complete rip-off. All that was done to my unit was an oil change!

Unresponsive

I installed a new Generac 24kW backup generator which gave me a message code of "no AC transfer". The only solution according to the user manual was to contact an authorized service provider. I called this company on their "24/7" emergency service number and didn't get a call back for two days. The lady in the office said she'd pass the message on to the owner who two weeks later returned my call. So much for 24/7 emergency service. Based on the abysmal (un)responsiveness, I would suggest finding another company that cares about service, not just in word but in deeds as well.

Disappointing

Called for estimate for Generac install and left a message. Never got a call back. A week later I called back and they said they were just going to call me. Yeah, sure. A site visit was made and I was given a verbal estimate. Never received a written proposal. After two weeks I called and was told I would receive a written proposal in two days. Weeks later I've received nothing.

Knowledgable dealer, excellent service.

I have a self-installed 9KW and am very comfortable working on electrical and electronic systems. Internal combustion engines not so much. I called Alternative Power Systems about a year after installation to do the 25-hour valve lash adjustment and upgrade the firmware. Tech showed up on time and was very courteous, professional and thorough. I recommend this dealer.

The service was exceptional.

The response from this company to help us was beyond compare.We called just at closing on a Friday night and they were able to find a tech that would come to the site and trouble shoot the problem. After investigating the problem he contacted his boss, the service manager who he himself drove 40 minutes to find a replacemnet part. He arrived on site at midnight and worked with us until 1:30 am to solve the problem. From my experience with this company and from being from out of town, I would recommend this company for any type of questions or service work needed. I could only wish that other companies anywhere would respond like this.
