Disappointing experience.

I was rescheduled 3 times over three weeks before a technician showed up. The technician who arrived was certified by Generac but did not demonstrate he was all that confident. I suggested he check the battery first and then the control board. He did not. While he was doing something else, I tested the battery and found it was dead. His reply was "Oh". Battery was replaced so he could continue investigating. He found two blowen fuses and replaced them, but it didn't fix the problem. He did not know what else to do so started reading his manuals. After a half hour he finally called his supervisor who arrived about 45 min. later and he found the problem was the control board.

Fantastic service

Our home had a Generac 20kW standby generator when we purchased it. It was recently put to the test. Likely from a recent storm, two days ago I discovered our main service panel was hot. So hot, in fact, it was the smell that sent up a red flag. I called Marty at Alternating Currents, who I\u2019ve been using since at least 2011 at a previous address. He guided me through the next steps and was at my home within a few minutes of the fire department, who said that my panel was over 200 degrees, which was due to the failing 200A main breaker, fried from a surge or spike during the storm. Marty had a crew at my house first thing in the morning. We replaced the entire electrical service, inside panel and outside meter box. (ComEd had completely removed the meter so as to prevent a catastrophe). By the afternoon, the work was complete and we were running off our Generac. Marty made sure the generator was in proper condition and working order, and ran a full test of the switch from line power, to generator, and back. In just a little over 24 hours, we went from a near-catastrophe to a whole new service. Before the fire department left, Marty was working on getting the permit process started, coordinating with ComEd, and setting up the crew for first thing the next morning (it was just before 4 pm). We had full confidence that Alternating Currents would get it done and do it right, and they did.

They took extra care to protect our home from debris/dirt and cleaned up after themselves. They explained all the functions/safety modes and made sure we understood operation/troubleshooting. They took care of permitting and the city inspection passed with no issues.Joy from the office was very helpful and helped us to work with Nicor to get our gas meter upgraded.From start to finish Alternating Currents took care of us and we're very happy with the service we received.

Excellent service from Marty

I requested a service call due to a hard cold start condition and to give my generator a once over. Marty came out on a cold Saturday afternoon, I explained the problem and the basic maintenance and repairs I have done over the years. Marty gave the generator a look over, started it and immediately identified the probable problem as the stepper motor. He said, since you do your own maintenance, it's easy to replace, then showed me how to replace the stepper motor. Marty checked a few other things, answered a few other questions I had, then told me he'd email me a quote for the stepper motor. Although Marty made a service call to my home, he said he wouldn't feel right charging me for the short time he was there. That's correct $0-no charge-for a service call, diagnosis and a brief tutorial on how to replace the defective part. You can't ask for better service.
