We never planned on shopping around for a backup generator. Then we received the first estimate from a company outside Dubuque. We started to look locally. Hawkeye was prompt and answered all of our questions. The rep was knowledgeable and professional. If you need the peace of mind that a backup generator gives, call Hawkeye Electric.

Hawkeye Electric 5+ Stars, Generac Company 3 Stars

We bought a 22 KW Generac whole house generator through Hawkeye Electric in Hiawatha, IA. Tom and Kirk at Hawkeye helped us with the sales and installation. We are very pleased with the service we received from Hawkeye and with their work. Tom, Kirk and Hawkeye have earned our highest regard, and we can recommend them without reservation. There was one disappointment, and that relates to the Generac Company, not Hawkeye Electric. Generac represents their generators to be of the highest quality, yet they feel the need to engage in a lot of “hocus pocus” with the length of warranty they provide on their generators. The “standard” warranty is five years. However, if you watch Generac’s infomercials they include a seven or ten-year warranty at random times. We watched and waited for several months for the ten-year warranty. The longest warranty Generac offered during that time was seven years. We called Generac and asked if we could get the ten-year warranty by paying the difference between the seven and ten-year warranty. They advised that if we bought a generator with the seven-year warranty and we wanted a ten-year warranty we would have to pay the entire price of a ten-year warranty. We had to settle for a seven-year warranty. Several months later, we noticed Generac was again offering the ten-year warranty on their infomercials. Generac, if anyone at your company is reading this the reason for the five stars on this review is because the people at Hawkeye Electric earned it through their excellent work and service. Our experience with the Generac Company would only rate three stars. If you really believe your generators are the best and want to provide excellent service to your customers, why don’t you stop the “hocus pocus” and provide a ten year warranty to all of your customers so they don’t have to wait for the random longer warranty offerings, or pay an exorbitant fee for the longer warranty? Playing games with your customers regarding warranty length doesn’t flatter your company and diminishes an otherwise positive experience.

Excellent to Work With

Hawkeye Electric is a local company and responds promptly to customers. They are the ONLY local company who installs and maintains Generacs. I reached out to them initially through email and I received a call back within a day from Tom, Manager of the Generator Division. As a reference, I also called 2 other companies and did not receive a call back from either company, ever. My specific project was a home stand-by generator. The entire process was actually enjoyable. Tom came to the house and walked me through the entire project on paper first. This was very helpful and eased some of my anxiety about the project. Communication was outstanding, as Tom was always able to be reached by phone or email. There are several entities involved during the install( electric and gas utilities, hvac, inspectors, et al.); Hawkeye Electric handles all the communication and coordination of these parties to facilitate the installation. Seamless installation process. All of the employees were professional and a joy to work with. More importantly, they all followed through on their word. If Tom said, Hawkeye would take care of it, they did! I would recommend them for any project you may have in mind.

Installation involved coordination of several contractors and city inspection, all of which was accomplished smoothly and without delay. All install work was done in an aesthetically pleasing manner, with top grade materials. We are quite pleased with the result.

Amazing Work.

Super Happy with what they did for me. A tree took out a power line a week after they hooked me up. Generator started right up. Ran for about 3 1/2 hours. Then shut down when power was restored. Ran quiet and smooth the whole time. Love it.

Hawkeye Electric was quick to respond to my request for an in-home review of what I might need in a generator. The employee carefully analyzed my electric panel to note the items in my home it powered so a good determination could be made on generator size. He walked the outside area to determine the best location for the generator placement. He carefully explained his thinking on why he recommended what he did. I was thrilled that they would take care of the Iowa One Call notifications and get the building permit necessary. They were prompt on the day of installation and worked great with the utility people and plumbing contractor. Everything was efficiently dealt with and my install only took about 5 hours, some of that time was waiting for the required inspections along the way. Time was spent with me to explain and show me how it all worked. A demonstration was done with a simulated power outage to be sure things all worked as they should. I am beyond satisfied with everything & my experience with Hawkeye Electric.
