We bought a 22 KW Generac whole house generator through Hawkeye Electric in Hiawatha, IA. Tom and Kirk at Hawkeye helped us with the sales and installation. Hawkeye Electric is a local company and responds promptly to customers. They are the ONLY local company who installs and maintains Generacs. I reached out to them initially through email and I received a call back within a day from Tom, Manager of the Generator Division. As a reference, I also called 2 other companies and did not receive a call back from either company, ever. My specific project was a home stand-by generator. The entire process was actually enjoyable. Tom came to the house and walked me through the entire project on paper first. This was very helpful and eased some of my anxiety about the project. Communication was outstanding, as Tom was always able to be reached by phone or email. There are several entities involved during the install( electric and gas utilities, hvac, inspectors, et al.); Hawkeye Electric handles all the communication and coordination of these parties to facilitate the installation. Installation involved coordination of several contractors and city inspection, all of which was accomplished smoothly and without delay. All install work was done in an aesthetically pleasing manner, with top grade materials. We are quite pleased with the result.

Super Happy with what they did for me.A tree took out a power line a week after they hooked me up. Generator started right up.Ran for about 3 1/2 hours. Then shut down when power was restored. Ran quiet and smooth the whole time. Love it.

Hawkeye Electric was quick to respond to my request for an in-home review of what I might need in a generator. The employee carefully analyzed my electric panel to note the items in my home it powered so a good determination could be made on generator size. He walked the outside area to determine the best location for the generator placement. He carefully explained his thinking on why he recommended what he did. I was thrilled that they would take care of the Iowa One Call notifications and get the building permit necessary. They were prompt on the day of installation and worked great with the utility people and plumbing contractor. Everything was efficiently dealt with and my install only took about 5 hours, some of that time was waiting for the required inspections along the way. Time was spent with me to explain and show me how it all worked. A demonstration was done with a simulated power outage to be sure things all worked as they should. Our Project Manager for the purchase and installation of our Generac generator (Tom from Hawkeye Electric) went out of his way to help us in the selection, purchase and installation of our generator. He was very knowledgeable, helpful, and took all the stress out of making a big decision. In spite of winter weather and a very tight schedule Tom and his crew were able to install our new Generac exactly on schedule while demonstrating and explaining the amazing system. Incidentally, he found a dangerously exposed circuit in our electrical box and repaired it for free. With young children around, Tom found and prevented a potential catastrophe left by our home builder.

Tom was very helpful in helping me decide on what generator would best fit our needs. He gave us options for three different generator capacities along with a rational for each. In addition, he gave us an itemized breakdown of the cost, including installation and parts for each option. I appreciate this because you know what you are going to get and there is no confusion after the fact if something was not included. I decided on the largest capacity option because I wanted to make sure there would be no problem in running anything in the house, even at the same time.The people that installed the generator were friendly and efficient. The installers had a suggestion to move the generator to a different location, and as a result, we ended up getting charged less, because less materials were used, which was nice. After the installation, Tom came back to the house and went over the details of the computer with me including turning off our electricity to demonstrate how the generator kicks in. We then turned on the oven, central air, etc. to make sure the generator would take the load, which it easily did.As far as follow up service goes, I already had them install a generator at my office a few years ago and it is remotely monitored by them and they promptly come out for service calls as soon as a problem is detected.I highly recommend their service.

I needed my ten year old generator repaired and the contractor quickly diagnosed my issue. After careful reviewing of repair cost vs new generator, the contractor made my decision easy. He got the necessary permit, lined up the gas company to change out our gas meter, had another company install the gas line to the generator, coordinated with the electric company to turn off the power to our meter and had Hawkeye Electric technicians at our home for the generator installation......all on the same day. Everything was completed in less than one day. Unbelievable! I have never experienced such an organized major installation......ever! Tom from Hawkeye electric was extremely knowledgeable on the sale. He had an answer for every question and scenario that I could think of. Kirk our installer was efficient, clean and very picky on level, square, safe and in code. They handled everything from permits to gas and electric utility hookup, truly did not have to lift a finger. Generator is very quiet and we were not able to make it overload even with air conditioning, oven, stove top and 3 refrigerators and a freezer running. GREAT JOB, THANKS!

We are disabled residents of a semi-rural household that depends on an propane-fired generator for emergency power in our not-infrequent power outages. We live about 30 miles from Hawkeye. Hawkeye gave us prompt, expert, courteous, and personalized service when our old generator died.

While trying to obtain grants through FEMA for the City of Coggon I first reached out to Tom Otis at Hawkeye Electric clear back in 2010. As the years went on and still no grant I kept calling Tom for new quotes each year until it finally paid off last year. This process is crazy in its regulation. Tom Otis did a nice job of keeping everything moving forward. You have to take ownership of the process along with the dealer and advocate for yourself with cities/counties who wish to sign off on an otherwise routine event. Tom balanced everyone's needs well. I called at least 6 dealers of Generac and brand K generators, and only had 2 calls back. The quickest response I received was from Tom at Hawkeye Electric. We set up an appointment with in a day or 2 and Tom was there on time. He arranged everything from getting the gas line installed and meter changed to the install. On the day of the install, everyone showed up and got right to work. The work was done by early afternoon and everything turned out great.
